Pot filler faucets are incredibly unique and a growing trend in higher-end houses. But are pot filler faucets worth the money?

I don’t think so.

They look beautiful and are definitely a way to elevate the look of your kitchen. Pot filler faucets, also called Kettle faucets can be a helpful addition to make cooking easier if you are regularly making big pots of soups or stews.

Today I’m breaking down exactly what a pot filler faucet is, the pros and cons of using one, and whether or not we recommend buying one (hint… we don’t).

What is a Pot Filler Faucet? What do Pot Filler Faucets Look Like?

Pot filler faucets are faucets installed right above your stovetop on the wall. They add a convenient source of water above the stove whenever you need it. It has an extendable arm that makes it super easy to fill up a pot of water directly on the stove – much easier than carrying one from the sink to the stove!

Some sinks aren’t well designed to fit pig stock pots for soup. The sink might be too shallow or the faucet spout isn’t able to aim into the big pot.

Pot filler faucets make it super easy to fill up pots (obviously…) because they are positioned directly above your stovetop. They are super compact and don’t take up much space, but they’re super functional when you need it.

Pros and Cons of a Pot Filler Faucet

There’s no doubt that pot filler faucets can be a great addition to your kitchen. But are they worth the cost? It depends on what your preferences are.

Here are the pros and cons of pot filler faucets to help you decide for yourself.

Pros

Convenience

The main advantage of pot filler faucets is the convenience. Their main function is to make it easier to fill a pot with water. It can be a hassle to fill up a full stockpot with water and carry over to the stovetop. A stove with a faucet makes it much easier to fill up!

No spills or messes or accidents

If you install a pot filler faucet you’ll never have to carry a big pot of water again. You’ll be much less likely have to spills if you accidentally drop a pot full of water.

Elevate your kitchen

Pot filler faucets are a sleek feature for your kitchen. They are rare and mostly used in high end homes. Even if you don’t use it super often, a stove with a faucet is definitely a way for your kitchen to stand out.

If you are ever trying to sell your house, this will be a value add and a big attraction for potential buyers.

Great for elderly

For the safety and convenience reasons we’ve mentioned, pot filler faucets are great for elderly people. If you’re outfitting a home for your parents or with grandparents in mind, this can be a thoughtful touch.

Cons

Cost

Pot filler faucets aren’t cheap. In fact, they tend to be almost twice the cost of regular kitchen faucets. They are expensive to purchase and expensive to install. The vast majority of these are wall mounted faucets which means you have to run plumbing lines behind the wall. As much as we love a good DIY project, installing a pot filler faucet is best left to a professional.

Must be cleaned more often

A pot filler faucet is situated above your stove which means they are more likely to get dirty while cooking. Any time you cook something with grease, smoke, or splatter you’ll have to wipe down this faucet as well.

Difficult installation

As we mentioned above with cost, these faucets are much more difficult to install. You will have to hire a plumber to install them. Not only that, but if you ever have issues with the faucet leaking it will cause more issues because it’s behind the wall. Leaks are harder to fix and usually cause more damage by the time you notice the leak.

Lacks versatility

Pot filler faucets are not the most versatile of kitchen appliances. Really the only function is to fill a pot with water. Considering the cost, I just don’t think pot filler faucets are worth the money.

Factors to Consider When Buying a Pot Filler Faucet

1. How often will you really use it?

This is one of the most important questions you need to ask before buying a pot filler faucet. How often will you really use it? It would be nice to be able to fill up a pot of water directly on the stove, but how often do you find yourself really needing to do that?

And is that worth the cost?

I don’t think so. We don’t make pasta very often, but maybe you do! If so, it might be worth it.

But dropping $1200-1500 on faucet + installation for using these once a month?

Not worth the money.

2. Can you afford them?

Cost is always a factor when it comes to a bathroom or kitchen remodel. Pot filler faucets have more hardware and materials which tends to increase the price quite a bit. The installation is more difficult too.

Even if you know you would use a pot filler often, can you afford buying one? Is it worth the cost?

3. Will a pot filler faucet fit your kitchen aesthetic?

Pot filler faucets are a great touch for high-end kitchens. If you’re designing a house from scratch then you can probably build one in that fits your kitchen aesthetic.

These look best in larger kitchens that are spacious. If you put one in a small kitchen it will make your space feel more cramped and cluttered. Pot filler faucets can be wall or deck mounted.

Final Verdict: Is a Pot Filler Faucet Right for you?

But I just don’t think they are worth the money or disadvantages. Most people wouldn’t use it often enough to ever be worth the cost. The require a lot of maintenance to keep clean and you better pray you never get a leak or you’ll be tearing apart your kitchen to fix it.

If you want to go with a high end look for your kitchen you should just splurge and get a great kitchen faucet like a bridge faucet or pre-rinse faucet.
